iPhone 15 Plus review in 5 points: Worth upgrading

After testing the iPhone 15 series over the past few weeks, I believe the iPhone 15 Plus is the best choice for most buyers this year, as it provides a Pro-like experience at almost the same price as the iPhone 15. Read iPhone India Today Tech 15 Plus review in 5 points to find out everything about it.

• Even though the iPhone 15 Plus is not cheap, it is still affordable.

• It comes with significant performance and camera improvements.

• If nothing else, you should consider the iPhone 15 Plus for its battery backup.

It's been almost a month since Apple introduced its new iPhone lineup – iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. There's renewed excitement for the iPhone 15 series this year, with hundreds of people queuing outside newly opened Apple Stores in India, to get their hands on them. If you haven't given in to the initial hype and are still thinking about which iPhone 15 model you should buy this year, then this 5-point review of the iPhone 15 Plus is for you.

Let me put it straight - I believe the iPhone 15 Plus is the most attractive and valuable iPhone this year. I have 3 reasons to believe that -

1 - Pro models are very expensive now. Although the iPhone 15 Plus cannot be called cheap either, with prices starting at Rs 90,000, it is still affordable.

2 - This is a great upgrade. To be fair, Apple has added some meaningful improvements to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus this year. They have dynamic islands, USB type-C charging ports, upgraded chips, and new camera systems.

3 - For most users, this is enough. I think this is the most important point you need to remember - while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is the most beautiful device in the new lineup, it's also too much for most users.

I'm sure you still have some questions, I'll try to answer them all here, but if you want a detailed opinion on the iPhone 15 Plus, I've already shared it in my full review of the iPhone 15 Plus. So, you can also read it. So, here are 5 important things you need to know about the iPhone 15 Plus.

1. Huge performance improvements

The biggest improvement to the iPhone 15 Plus for me this year is in terms of performance. Apple has upgraded its phones with the A16 Bionic chip and the results are clear to see. The iPhone 15 Plus scored around 1.3 million on AnTuTu and also posted solid single-core (2552) and multi-core (6037) scores on Geekbench 6. This represents a significant performance improvement compared to the iPhone 14 Plus, at least in on paper.

In the real world, the phone is fast - handling everyday tasks like playing YouTube videos, managing multiple apps, replying to texts, etc. with ease. I played a lot of games, like Asphalt 9, Call of Duty: Mobile and they all worked fine. Unlike the Pro model, which gets a little hot, the iPhone 15 Plus also manages heat very well. The only time it got hot was when I ran benchmarks.

So overall, the iPhone 15 Plus is a great phone for anyone and I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10 for its performance.

2. Big camera changes

Apple has gone big in camera hardware this year. Add to that the versatility of the camera system and we're looking for a really good camera in the form of the iPhone 15 Plus. The main camera has a 48 megapixel sensor. Additionally, there is a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 12-megapixel front camera. The phone brings support for high-resolution images at 24 megapixels, the ability to click 2x images using the main camera while retaining some of the old features like cinematic videos.

I clicked a lot of pictures using iPhone 15 Plus. You can check it out in my full review here. However, as a quick overview - the main camera is the star here and captures detail, color and dynamic range superbly to produce some brilliant images. It maintains impressive consistency across light conditions and scenarios. The HDR effect is also well maintained and not once does the phone try to overexpose shadows to make the scene look brighter.

Another advantage is that the iPhone is still the best cellphone for recording video. The iPhone 15 Plus supports 4K 60fps video recording for both the front and rear cameras. Numbers aside, the videos look amazing and if you are a content creator or shoot videos for social media, this is the ideal phone for that.

3. Excellent battery life

Even if the camera isn't that important to you or you don't game much on your phone, I'd say buy the iPhone 15 Plus for its excellent battery backup. It offers the best battery life on an iPhone - EVER. The phone can last about a day and a half with moderate use. My use cases involve clicking lots of pictures, watching videos, listening to music, and general everyday stuff.

The only downside is that the phone takes a while to charge. It took me about 30 minutes to charge the phone from 0 to 40 percent, while a full charge took over an hour. Even with MagSafe, it only supports 15W charging.

4. Some things don't change

Despite all these improvements, there are some things that haven't changed – design and appearance. Apple continues to maintain the design of last year's iPhone 13 series. So, you still get a diagonally placed camera lens, a glass back, and an Aluminum frame. The front gets a new look with Dynamic Island and the traditional Lightning port has been replaced with a Type-C port. However, the overall look and feel of the phone remains the same. I like the light feel, but if you've ever used an iPhone 13 or iPhone 14, there's nothing particularly exciting here.

iPhone 15 Plus

Another aspect that didn't get a big upgrade is the display. Apple is back to using the same 6.7-inch OLED panel from last year with the same 60Hz refresh rate and HDR support. Peak brightness has been increased to 2000 nits. In general, the display is sharp, sharp, and has very balanced color adjustments.

5. Best value iPhone

Considering everything -- all the pros, cons, upgrades, and price -- I believe the iPhone 15 Plus is the best investment you can make right now. It costs just Rs 10,000 more than the iPhone 15 and for that, you get a bigger screen and a much better battery. At least I think these are the two things you ideally want on your phone.

In short, I've been using all the new iPhone 15 series phones over the past few weeks and while the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are absolutely the best iPhones you can buy right now, the middle class kid in me just can't. accepting that the phone can cost Rs 2 lakh. That's one of the reasons why I think the iPhone 15 Plus is more attractive. It definitely offers a Pro-like experience at almost the same price as the iPhone 15.
